Fireball UK Update

26th April 2017

It is with regret that we have decided to terminate our relationship with Fireball UK with immediate effect.

We will no longer offer Fireball products in our detailing treatments and will no longer be stocking them in our studio.

This does not affect the warranty on any treatments we have done that include Fireball Dok Do. We will honour the warranty in-house should remedial work be required.

If you have any further enquiries please direct them to Richard Allen on 0800 0433055.

ECU Remapping Facts – West Midlands – Reflections Detailing Ltd

OUR FREE REMAPPING GUIDE WILL TELL YOU THE 5 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE REMAPPING YOUR CAR

  • A reputable remapping company will return your car to standard without charge, at the time of the remap, if you are not happy with the results.
  • A reputable remapping business will keep your original calibration – and restore it if you are not completely happy.
  • An investment of many thousands of pounds is required for the correct equipment. Many people offering remapping use a £5 CD available on the internet.
  • It takes years of training and experience to correctly re-tune a car. Our technicians have to keep abreast of modifications to all makes and models.
  • Having your car remapped by an amateur or someone who is not sufficiently qualified and/or does not have the right equipment may DECREASE performance and INCREASE fuel usage as well as damaging the configuration of your engine.

THE HIDDEN DANGERS OF DIESEL TUNING AND REMAPPING

In our free remapping guide, we go through the things to consider before purchasing a remap. Having been in the business of recalibrating O.E. Engine management systems for over 8 years, we have been watching the market change with a mixture of disappointment and dismay. It is an unfortunate fact of life now that there are many products on the market that give anyone with a little computer knowledge access to the engine run calibration stored within a vehicle’s ECU.

This was always going to happen as all manufacturers, now allow ECU recalibrating via computer so that faults can be ironed out at main-dealer level and options can be added to the car without factory intervention.

The problem is, you can easily go online and buy yourself a relatively cheap tuning and remapping programmer that will both read and write the file in your engine management system, which means if you had the means and know how to edit it, you could alter the way the engine runs. This is where the problems have started to arise as not only can you buy the hardware, you can also buy files on a CD that claim to offer the same as the professionals do. These CD’s often have some 10,000 modified ECU’s files on them, and all for only £4. Does that sound like a professional has made them to you?

Generally speaking, these files have been stolen from one or another company over the years and been compiled onto CD/DVD. Are the files good? Nobody knows… will they kill your engine? Well, we sure won’t be finding out as we wouldn’t dare use one on your expensive engine, but sadly lots of these people have done just that and the manufacturers are selling ECU’s, engines and transmissions like hot cakes as a result!

We feel it was worth writing this page to make you aware that the reason for the sudden drop in market price of this product is owing to the number of companies that have suddenly popped up, claiming to be experts at remapping engine management systems! It is usually quite easy to spot them – just start asking some searching questions about how the maps work and you will soon find out if you are talking to a man who knows a little bit about computers, or if you are talking to an industry professional. The former will change the file in your ECU for one found on a CD purchased online. An industry professional will calibrate the file for your particular car and as a result can tweak it to perfection, ensuring all security and chassis coding is retained.

Some so-called “calibrators” couldn’t even tell you the correct AFR for full load use, let alone how a torque limiting map actually works and why you should just maximise all values within it… why these people think it’s acceptable to just increase calibration tables to max without knowing what they do just because they read it on the internet is anyone’s guess, but every industry is the same really if people can make an easy buck, they will and its always at the end users cost.

At the end of the day, this is a high technology industry that requires constant re-investment in tooling and skills due to the sheer pace of the technology utilised on modern vehicles. Anyone diesel tuning or remapping at O. E. level as we are needs to be constantly retraining and have access to the best tooling and software that money can buy, and it cannot be bought with mere thousands, you need to invest tens and ultimately hundreds of thousands.

BEAR THIS IN MIND

5 years ago your average car like a Sierra Cosworth had just 40 tables of interest to calibrators and around 50 calibration switch points for equipment and parameter coding. Today, even your average family diesel has in excess of 1000 calibration tables and tens of thousands of data switch points. How do these fly by nights know which tables need changing, and by how much? How do they know what the tables do and what the effect will be? Will the increased boost cause turbo problems? Excessive EGT’s? Premature head gasket failure? Will the increased rail pressure cause problems with the injectors? (Especially on Ford TDCI’s) The Pumps? The lines? We have seen ruptured fuel lines here caused by some idiot raising a common rail pressure by an extra 100bar because he thought it was an extra 1.00 bar of boost. Incredible!

When a professional does the work he will start with your OWN original file and modify a carbon copy of that one so that all immobiliser and chassis information is retained, as well as any updates you have had installed from the factory such as personality settings and bug fixes etc… you end up with your own file, tweaked for more power/economy etc and access to your unaltered original calibration back at any time should you need it and that is the ONLY way vehicles should be tuned.

The cheap remapping file fitters normally install files from release date cars with the immobiliser software removed and of course, no factory bug fixes so they can quickly and easily flash the same file into hundreds of cars. At best you get a car with more power and a lot of bugs, or at worst one with an immobilised ECU that nobody can access or even one that does run but a thief can take from you in under 10 seconds.

New Additions

investment

Well, 2017 has started off expensively! We’ve invested over £20k in new equipment to improve the quality of service we provide, the speed that we provided it and improve convenience of accessing our services.

We have been remapping for 2 years now and £6k of our investment has gone on new equipment that will increase the number of vehicles we can do in-house. This allows us to reduce prices on bench tuning slightly, reduce lead time and reduce the amount of time we need your car for. We have also bought a new piece of equipment that is better at tuning VAG group cars and removes the need to bench tune in a lot of cases.

For the detailing side of the business, our new 3.2tonne scissor lift will allow us to deliver even higher standards than we already do and save our knees and backs at the same time!

And our popular courtesy car has been joined by another, brand new Citroen C1. This has allowed us to reduce the waiting time where our customer need the use of a courtesy car.

Of course this is just a start! We have more plans for 2017 so keep checking back.

Referral Rewards

We love our customers, without them, we would be nothing, literally! A lot of our business comes from referrals from existing customers and we thought it as about time we rewarded people for spreading the word about our brilliant services.

A lot of our business comes from referrals from existing customers and we thought it as about time we rewarded people for spreading the word about our brilliant services. With that in mind, we have created our unique, Referral Reward Scheme.

All customers who have used us in the past, or do so in future, will qualify to participate in the scheme which offers individual rewards of up to £40 with no cap on the number of referrals that can be made. The more people you refer, the more will use Reflections Detailing and the more you will earn! It’s that simple.

Find out more about our Referral Rewards Scheme here, and don’t forget to share!

Mobile Valeting

With effect from January 1st, 2017 we will be scaling back our mobile valeting service. We will only offer Premium Valets within a smaller radius of our base and regular maintenance details to clients who have had cars detailed by us. Our reasons for doing this are very simple. As a completely legitimate business, we are fully insured and compliant with all tax requirements including VAT registration. 99% of businesses in the valeting market never make it to the VAT threshold so don’t have to charge it. Most of them only have Public Liability insurance (which costs about £200 per year – ours is £8500) and aren’t insured to move your car at all. A lot don’t bother with insurance or even pay tax. It means it is incredibly difficult for us to be competitive so we are no longer going to try.

We are keeping our Premium Valet Service because there has always been strong demand for it and it really does make a big difference to your car. We will also continue to look after our existing customers albeit with a new pricing structure. We have closed down our valeting specific website and are in the process of updating the quote tool and valeting information on this site. If you have any questions please fell free to call and ask, our number is 0800 0433055.

Remapper – the most advanced personal remapping device on the market

We are very proud to announce that we have been selected to be the West Midlands distributor for Remapper – the most advanced personal remapping device on the UK market.

For many people normal ECU remapping is fine but there are people who would like more control over the process or prefer to use plug-in tuning boxes. They want to be able to remove the remap and put it back on at will. Remapper just does this.

The maps that are used are supplied by Quantum Tuning and are the same quality used in our standard ECU Remapping process so they have an immediate benefit over the masses of generic plug-in black boxes available. And because you control when the map is applied (and taken off) you have the same level of flexibility as you would have with a plug-in box. The difference is you don’t have to strip and engine covers and get your hands dirty removing a connectors from your vehicle fuel injection system. The programming is carried out from inside your car using the standard OBD port. The Remapper device even guides you through the risk-free process too.

Call us on 0800 0433055 for more details of this exciting new product.

Dirty Weekender – Adventure Vans

Our friends at Dirty Weekender built the UK’s FIRST converted T6

We prepared the vehicle before it’s first public engagement at Busfest on 4th September. The quality of the fit finish is outstanding (and we’re very fussy as you know!) We work with a lot of VWs these days and no other company’s work comes close. If you are in the market for a lifestyle camper you need to talk to Johnny and Katie @ DW.

And don’t forget that it will be us preparing it before you collect 🙂

Before the T6 was even released DW had managed not only to get their paws on one…but to do a FULL Reimo conversion on it including air suspension in just 8 days!!! The result is a BEAUTY. With a Reimo Easy Fit roof, Triostyle furniture, full leather retrim and wrap she stuck out from the masses when we debuted her at Busfest this weekend. I’m pretty sure we can claim the FIRST T6 CONVERSION in the UK! Thank you to all of those that helped to make it possible our incredible and relentless DW team as well as our fantastic suppliers.

New Bentley Bentayga goes on sale as waiting list extends to 2017

Bentley will reinvent the notion of a luxury SUV early next year, when deliveries of its Bentayga commence. This will be the first production 4×4 to convincingly vault above the Range Rover in the prestige stakes. It’ll be more expensive, too, with a likely price of around £160,000.What does that get you?

A mighty W12 petrol engine with twin turbos and a 600bhp, 663lb ft output is what, with an eight-speed auto box and full-time four-wheel drive. It’s all housed on a platform borrowed from the Audi Q7, which is nice and light as it’s made mainly from aluminium. All things are relative of course, and in this case ‘light’ means a kerb weight of 2422kg, but that’s not bad for what is a truly immense vehicle even by SUV standards.Talking of immense things, that’s what its top speed is. An immense 187mph, to be exact. And the first 60 of them are seen off in a trifling 4.0 seconds.Shifting almost two and a half tonnes and 17 feet of metal at that sort of rate takes some doing, so it’s actually rather impressive that the Bentayga manages to return about 22mpg combined. That’s still a lot these days, as are the 292g/km it emits, but these figures bear out the worth of Bentley’s efforts to improve economy through all the technology it can get its hands on.If you lift off the power in any of the top four gears, for example, the vehicle will unhook the gearbox and coast until your foot goes back down.

Enjoying the experience will be your good self plus three or four others – buyers can specify a four or five-seat interior. A wheelbase of more than 16 feet means there’s no end of room in there, and there’s no end of luxury either. Bentley insisted that it should be as upmarket as any of its other vehicles inside, rugged drivetrain notwithstanding. And it is rugged, too. ‘Owners may never drive these vehicles off-road,’ said engineering boss Rolf Frech at the Bentayga’s Frankfurt launch, ‘but they must know it will perform in tough conditions.’Bentley must know that, too, having put in more than a million miles of testing during the car’s development. These went into fine-tuning features like all-round computer-controlled air springs, which operate in a total of eight driver-selected modes – four each on and off-road.Orders are being taken now for the Bentayga, ahead of deliveries in the first quarter of 2016. But the first year’s order book is already full – if you order now, your delivery won’t be until 2017.

Why we have a workshop

Reflections Detailing, detailing, mobile valeting, ecu remppaing, gyeon certified, gyeon mohs+, alloy wheel refurbishment, event valeting

When we started the Company at the end of 2011 we were a 100% mobile business offering mobile detailing and mobile valeting. We very quickly realised that if we wanted to deliver the quality of work we were capable of delivering a permanent, indoor base was essential. The simple fact is mobile detailing has to compromise in so many areas due to the weather, atmospheric conditions, pollutants etc. You can’t correct paint when pollen is falling onto the car while you’re polishing! It also limits the type of protection products that can be used – the best products on the market need carefully controlled conditions and have to be kept dry for a minimum of 12 hours after application.

Since 2013 we have operated from secure premises in the heart of the Midlands. We have invested in the best equipment available including an extensive lighting rig and added complimentary services to our portfolio. We were one of the first Gyeon Certified Detailers in the country and continue to work with the to this day. The quality of our work is now better than ever thanks to our continued commitment to investment, training and a relentless passion to be the best.

Of course we have maintained and expanded our mobile offering continuing investment into equipment, training and products but this is strictly limited to mobile valeting and ECU Remapping. We will never carry out detailing work on a mobile basis, we would rather not do the job than compromise our quality.

Our mobile valeting offering is a reliable, high-tech, high quality service that you will find hard to beat. We don’t use TFR, sponges, drying blades, chamois leather, acid based wheel cleaners etc to get you car clean. Everything we use – equipment, chemicals and process – has been developed in the detailing side of our business and transferred over to guarantee a 100% safe wash with durable protection for a fair price.

With the car care industry you really do get what you pay for.

Reduce your fleet costs

As a Fleet Manager one of your core KPIs will be to keep the cost of your fleet as low as possible. Your fuel bill is likely to be one of your top 3 biggest costs. Following our fuel saving top tips you could reduce your costs by 10%-20%.

Our Top 10 Fuel Saving Tips

Dramatically improve your MPG by following these fuel saving tips on a daily basis; challenge yourself to constantly improve. You will be amazed at what you can save.

1. Slow Down

One of the best ways to save fuel is to simply reduce your speed.

2. Careful Braking

Every time you brake, you convert fuel that you have paid for into heat!

3. Planning

Plan ahead, watch for traffic; choose the best route, not always the shortest.

4. Use Gravity

On a modern vehicle it uses no fuel when your foot is off the accelerator, so take advantage of downhill runs, or approaching a junction; it’s completely free motoring!

5. Accelerate With Care

Accelerate smoothly and gently, maintain a constant speed and keep gear changes to a minimum.

6. Top Gear

Get into top gear as soon as possible, without labouring the engine as each gear down can cost up to 20% fuel.

7. Switch The Air-con

Off Up to 10% fuel saving

8. Keep It Serviced

Under-inflated tyres are one of the most commonly ignored causes of poor MPG.•A dirty air filter restricts the flow of air into the engine, which harms performance and economy. Use a quality oil.

9. Reduce Weight

Always remove your roof rack or roof box as soon as you are finished with them, the extra drag they cause will have a negative effect on your fuel economy. Only keep things in your car you’re likely to need, having a boot full of junk reduces your fuel economy too.

10. Have a Remap

With a diesel engineed vehicle you can significantly improve fuel consumption by having a remap. But don’t take our word for it, try it for 30-days under our no quibble money-back guarantee.

Save Fuel With A Quantum ReMap™ Don’t believe in outlandish fuel saving claims, these simply won’t happen! Fact is that no one has a miracle cure or gadget to save both your pocket and the planet, BUT when you have a Quantum Green™ Remap you can experience substantial fuel savings and these days, every little really does help. Realistically, most turbo-diesel vehicles can see a 10-15% fuel saving from the remap alone. BUT, when combined with a change in driving style to take full advantage of the extra torque and driveability, then much more is possible.

Example

A company car travelling 30,000 miles pa averaging 50mpg with a fuel cost of £1.15 per litre will spend £3105 on diesel. A modest 10% improvement would save £310.50 per year, almost £1000 over a 3 year lease. Add in the cost of an ECU Remap at £250 and you can see it will pay for itself in the first year.

For an informal chat about how you could reduce your fleet costs please call us free on 0800 0433055 and ask for Richard.

So you’ve ordered a new car

car detailing, Gyeon Protection, machine polishing, swissvax, paint correction, Mobile Valeting, Detailing, ECU Remapping, Reflections Detailing, Dudley, birmingham, kidderminster, wolverhampton, worcester, west midlands, midlands, worcestershire, redditch, bromsgrove

Congratulations! If you’re anything like us you’ll be like a kid waiting for Christmas. Collecting a new car is an exciting experience, it will be presented to you by your salesman in the dealerships purpose-built handover bay where they’ll take you through the controls and key features of your new car. It should look the best it ever will. But, will it?

While it is under those lights have a close look at the paintwork.  What you are likely to see are swirl marks – these are very feint scratches in the clearcoat of the paint, it is permanent damage that won’t wash out and is very difficult to remove by hand, in fact trying to “T-Cut” them out will often cause a lot more damage.

Why is it there? Dealership valeting teams are generally poorly trained and under a lot of pressure. They get as little as 45 minutes to fully prepare your new car. Swirls in your brand new pant are almost an inevitability because of the processes they use when washing your car.

What can you do about it? Don’t let them prepare it and NEVER buy their “Protection” products. They are overpriced, badly applied and rarely live up to expectation. Use a professional, Certified Detailer to clean, decontaminate, perfect and protect your new car. It will take couple of days but the cost won’t be too dissimilar to what your dealership would charge for their protection and your car will look better than your wildest expectations.

Check out our Gyeon Advanced New Car Protection Service to see what we do over 16-20 hours with a new car.

Don’t pay for airport parking

Here are the issues:

You want your car detailed but can’t afford to be without it for 3 or 4 days.

You’re going on holiday but really don’t want to leave your pride and joy with airport parking (and pay £100+ for the privilege. )

Here is the solution:

Have your car professionally Detailed by us while you’re relaxing by the pool with a cold beer and we will store your car inside our secure workshop while you’re away at no extra charge. You will come home to a car looking better than it did when it was new, you won’t have had to cope without it and the money you saved by not using airport parking will go towards our bill!

Making your alloy wheels look like new

Audi TTS Alloy wheel Refurbishment

When it comes to parallel parking there are very few of us have escaped the pain and anguish of kerbing our beloved alloy wheels. As hard as we try those pesky kerbs always find a way of scraping the face of our wheels inflicting permanent, unsightly damage. Some of us fare worse than others and have alloy wheels whose faces resemble cheese graters.

If you’re like me living with the damage isn’t an option. I HAVE to have it sorted out! Which is where another round of anguish starts. Who do I trust to do my wheels? There are plenty of options and price ranges and a quick Google of wheel refurbishment in your area will uncover a plethora of companies vying for your business.

But who to use….

You have to consider what you would like to achieve. Do you want a permanent, OEM quality repair that will be indistinguishable from the original wheel but cost a little bit more, or, a SMART repair that is cheaper, looks nice for a while but will start to peel and corrode before too long. The OEM quality repair will refurbish the whole wheel and takes longer, the SMART repair refurbishes only the face and is done in a couple of hours at your home/work.

Your choice comes down to quality and cost essentially. My personal preference, and one I always encourage, is to have an OEM quality repair especially for Diamond Cut wheels. SMART repairs on those are incredibly poor.

The only Alloy Wheel Refurbishment Service we offer is geared up to offer the best quality possible with cost taking a back seat and all of our refurbished wheels come with a 12 month guarantee. Having said that a set of 4 18″ alloy wheels fully stripped, repaired, refurbished, tyres refitted and wheels protected with a ceramic coating is just £360 – that’s only £90 per wheel. When you consider the price of OEM wheels that’s a bargain.

You can see some examples of our Alloy Wheel Refurbishments here.

Petrol prices on the increase once again

We all knew it was too good to last, the promise of the £1 a litre petrol never quite materialised and now the price is heading back up.

Modern cars, particularly the diesels, have superb MPG as standard but if you drive an older car or one with a bigger engine the 65+ MPG you regularly see quoted can seem like a pipe dream. Howvever, there is something you can do to improve your lot.

Engines, in particular turbo diesels, leave the factory set up for a multitude of environments, fuel quality and emissions targets. There is a lot of surplus performance and economy that can be unlocked because of this and all it takes is some expert reprogramming of your car’s computer – ECU Remapping. This might sound a bit scary but for the experts at our tuner’s head office it’s a run-of-the-mill task. We can’t promise to get 65+MPG out of every car but we will improve it.

For under £300 and a couple of hours without your car you could get more power, making the car more enjoyable to drive, but also more MPG – typically between 10% and 15% – and lower emissions. The results are instant, permanent and you will start saving from the very first mile. All our remaps are custom written and come with a 14 day money back guarantee, if you aren’t 100% satisfied with the results let us know and we’ll put your car back to standard and refund your money. Not only that, we also offer a 12 month, 30,000 mile mechanical and electrical breakdown warranty should the work we have done cause a failure.

ECU Remapping with Reflections Detailing is 100% risk free. Now where did you put that phone?

Cleaning your car isn’t just about looking good

New research shows that the traditional Sunday afternoon act of washing the cars is dying. The rise of sports on satellite TV and hobbies such as cycling are occupying more and more of our free time. The result has been a shift to the cheap hand car washes that have sprung up on almost every old petrol station site and those waterless washes you see on supermarket car parks. For £3-£5 someone else will wash your car for you leaving you free to do something else. But at what cost?

These hand car washes use caustic traffic film remover (TFR) and strong wheel cleaners to get you car close to presentable in as short a time as possible. They have to. They have a limited number of sponges/wash mitts/towels etc so you know they will be reusing them during the day, some will even use drying blades. This is all bad news for the long term care of your car. You will end up with damaged metal trims thanks to the TFR, swirls and scratches in your paintwork, corroded alloy wheels and the sad thing is it can be avoided.

This Infinti M35H was hand washed at a roadside car wash twice a week for a year. The new owner wanted us to correct the paint. We made it look like new but gave the owner a bill for £600. Now, is that £3 wash still cheap?

Spending an hour washing your car yourself will prevent a whole host of damage being done just by following a few simple guidelines – we will be publishing a complete car care guide in the near future – which will keep your car looking better for longer, make the cleaning process easier and crucially, maintain a higher sale value.

Of course if you don’t fancy that companies like us will come out to you to carry out safe cleaning on a regular basis.
