Winter Protection Treatment

Winter will soon be here and with it, icy roads covered in salt and brine and permanently dirty cars. Whilst it helps to keep traffic moving safely salt is bad news for your car, especially diamond cut wheels. Roads rarely dry out and you end up with a constant grime stuck to the sides and back of your car.

Cleaning this grime off is really important, not just for cosmetic reasons, it will help to prevent damage too.

Wheels suffer from tiny stone impacts all year round, these tiny impacts damage the clearcoat on diamond cut wheels and can allow moisture direct access to the aluminium wheel face. This is what causes the oxidisation you often see with these wheels – the dreaded white worm. It is less of an issue with powder coated wheels where the coating is a lot thicker but they too can suffer from corrosion which manifests itself as bubbling in the coating.

Where your paintwork is concerned the same applies to scratches, they allow moisture access to the panels which isn’t ideal. But a bigger issue in winter is the dirt on your paintwork. How many times have you heard people say “There’s no point cleaning my car because it will just get dirty again!” Well, yes it will. But think about how paintwork damage happens. It only happens when you’re washing your car or when someone/something brushes against the paintwork. Careful washing with the two bucket method reduces the risk of causing damage while washing your car but what happens when you do your weekly shop in the run-up to Christmas?  It’s pretty much impossible to park on your own so you will be parked next to other people. As careful as they might be, how often does their bag, or bum, rub against your paintwork while they’re getting out or walking between cars? Any loose dirt on the surface of your paintwork will get trapped between your car and their bag/body parts and get dragged along causing scratches that might have been avoided if the car was clean.

Got That, So What Can I Do About It?

There are a couple of things you can do to minimise any risks of damage in winter but by far the most effective is quality protection applied to your wheels and paintwork. This is where our Winter Protection Treatment fits in.

This is a basic service that is purely aimed at applying a durable, protective coating to the exterior of your car. It can help in the following ways:

  • Providing a slick surface dirt will find it harder to stick to.
  • Making your car easier to clean and dry.
  • Offers a physical barrier to prevent moisture from reaching the treated surfaces.
  • Aids visibility in bad weather thanks to a high tech glass coating.
  • It looks nice.

Here’s what we do:

  • Snow foam and carefully pressure rinse the vehicle including wheel arches and under cill areas.
  • Thorough wheel clean of the faces and barrels.
  • Two-bucket safe wash.
  • Paintwork decontamination which helps the protection product last longer.
  • Second snow foam and high-pressure rinse.
  • Drying with soft microfibre towels.
  • Application of a basic ceramic coating to all exterior surfaces.
  • Application of Gtechniq G5 to the glass.

We carry out the work at our Cradley Heath workshop in around 2 hours.
